GLOWE community
Posted by Erdem on November 18, 2008 at 9:54 a.m.
Hello Everyone!
Yesterday we had a unique GLOWE meeting.
First of all, We gave away the Wii to our GLOWE contest winner.
Secondly we had a brainstorm about the GLOWE community and about motivation. We want the GLOWE community to be even more enthousiastic and motivated and because of this, we've decided that everyone should be able to have more input. An example could be that the community should organize the next meetings on their own. A first step in this direction is apointing a new moderator from within the GLOWE community. For his consistent additions to GLOWE and persistancy we asked Tom Claus to become the first new moderator on glowe.org. Congratulations Tom!
In the near future we hope to see the community take over even more and organize events for and by the GLOWE core members!
May the GLOWE surround you all!

From 1 september to 15 september you will be able to upload your widget to Gloweme. During this period Gloweme will be in closed beta. But offcourse You can already start building widgets. Then you will only need to upload them.
A winner will be chosen at the end of september and will be announced 29th of september.
The widgets will be judged on the following criteria:
- Coding Style and Complexity (server widgets, web services used, Services Created)
- Originality (RSS feeds aren't original :-) )
- Usefulness
- Usability
- Design
- File size
- Bandwidth usage
The grand prize is a Nintendo Wii console.

Mobilewebcamp GLOWE meeting
Posted by Erdem on April 28, 2008 at 10:23 a.m.The GLOWE crew was at the mobilewebcamp saturday. Together with a few core GLOWErs we made the day a succes.
Several people came to attend davy's hands-on lab in widget building. Many of them where curious people from the webcamp.
The same day our website was publicly launched. Cool to see was that there we're nearly always people sitting at the table, messing around in the widget editor, and if you wanted to take a break you could attend another session. Must say that the widget building contest was a succes aswell. In the picture below you can see the winner Tom(holding his phone), the runner up Andy(with the goatie) and in the middle Erdem from the GLOWE crew. Tom left the webcamp with 11 movie tickets in his pocket and he's been uploading widgets like crazy. Well done to Andy aswell, he had his widget working but just missed the timeline in having a nice style.
Also thanks to everyone attanding our GLOWE sessions. We'll be having a GLOWE meeting again in the very near future. Hope we'll see you guys there again.
you can see the full flickr stream of the webcamp here

Global Language for Open Widget Environments... An XML file format for creating mobile widgets. Next to the specification there is also a community...
Recently 16 people gathered at CityLive for pizza and... GLOWE. The developers and IT students who showed up were very enthousiastic. We contacted them all ourselves and hope that together we can form the basis of a strong community. We started out with a hands-on lab given by Davy and then everyone successfully tried to create their own widget. We discovered that some more widgets have been created later, wich means they have understood our message. All pictures can be found here.
